HondaLink App 2020

When it comes to different kinds of car technology, the quality and mechanisms can vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle. Every manufacturer promises the moon, but drivers are quick to disagree if the features or the UX don’t quite work as expected. HondaLink is a smartphone app that lets drivers control their cars regardless of where they happen to be. Take a deeper diver into what it can do and how it’s evolved over the years.

What is HondaLink?

HondaLink was originally unveiled in 2012 for the 2013 Honda Accord. The original conception was to bring together feeds to deliver information, entertainment, and news. In 2015, HondaLink embraced  Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems. Today, you can pair your HondaLink with either your iPhone or Android to access both the vehicle’s safety and infotainment systems.

This benefit is available on nearly all 2019 and 2020 models, though plenty of older versions may be equipped with this capability. Your HondaLink can be customized to your preferences. Here are just a few beloved functions of the app:

  • View your tire pressure, gas range, and oil change recommendations from your phone
  • Schedule a service appointment without calling into the dealership
  • Locate your car in a crowded lot if you can’t remember where you parked

Information Meets Entertainment

With so many distractions on the road today, the HondaLink makes it easy to enter your destination by voice, call friends without using your hands, and easily access your apps without endangering your safety. Stream your music, look up your contacts, and get navigation all from one handy place. Once you’ve downloaded the app, all you have to do is connect your phone via Bluetooth. Reviewers of the HondaLink have noted that this feature is especially useful for those with data restrictions on their phones.

Notable Updates

In 2019, HondaLink came out with a program called Key by Amazon. After the proliferation of Amazon Prime took off, it seemed prudent to partner with this juggernaut of a distributor. This feature is available in select cities across the US for Amazon Prime members and gives the delivery person the ability to put your packages in your vehicle’s trunk rather than being put on a doorstep to be taken by an opportunistic criminal. Access is quickly deactivated as soon as the delivery person is done depositing all your packages.

2019 also saw improved aesthetics of the HondaLink, and the upgraded UI was not lost on drivers. The foundation of the HondaLink was still there, but the features became more intuitive and easier to control. When drivers voice their feedback, Honda is ready to listen

Tiers of HondaLink

You do not need to pay an additional charge for the base version of the HondaLink. However, if you want certain features, you may want to upgrade. There are a few tiers of HondaLink, depending on the driver’s priorities.

If you opt for the top tier, you’re enrolled in the Concierge package, a system that allows you to call a live agent to do anything from buy movie tickets to make reservations to the latest restaurant in town. If you just want to remotely start, lock, and find your car, there’s a Remote package that will allow easy functionality. The lowest-paid tier includes better roadside assistance options as well as collision notifications that can help you prepare for what’s around the bend.

Not everyone uses technology in the same way, which is why HondaLink is a versatile tool that drivers can adapt for themselves. With upgrades like Key, you can see just how committed Honda is to evolving with the times. Drivers will continue to see improvements to the software of HondaLink as the year go by as well as additional compatibility with different programs.
