When Honda announced that they were discontinuing the Ridgeline in 2014, there were plenty of folks who just shrugged. But those of us who owned and drove a Honda Ridgeline, and knew what a great truck it was, were heartbroken. Well, for those people who mourned the loss, we have a wonderful surprise. The Ridgeline is back for the 2017 model year, and it’s better than ever.
The new 2017 Honda Ridgeline has been redesigned, but it still maintains all of the things we loved about the previous version. And by that we mean it’s still a stylish, fun to drive truck that’s responsive, roomy and comfortable. It’s also still got the dual-action tailgate, the in-bed trunk, and one of the most versatile rear seat spaces of any truck anywhere. Oh, and there’s also the fact that it’s backed with the reliability of Honda – and what’s not to love about that?
The Appeal of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline
Although we’re not certain about the legitimacy of the claim, we’ve heard talk that Honda brought back the Ridgeline by popular demand. If that’s the case, it would be no surprise to us. People who own a first generation Ridgeline tell us frequently how much they love their Honda trucks. To be sure, this isn’t a heavy job-site truck; which is what many people loved about it. Driving the Ridgeline is like driving a slightly oversized car, except that you can put all of the stuff you need for a weekend getaway in the bed. You can also tow a trailer or boat to your favorite spot.
What to Expect From the New 2017 Ridgeline
We’ve already said that the new Ridgeline will have a lot of the same features we loved about the old one, but it will also have plenty of new amenities as well. In addition, it will sport an entirely new body design; one that gets rid of the unibody structure and sloping bed that some people disliked. This might allow for a long bed version down the road, and even different cab configurations at some point. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
So, what’s new? Well, to start with it’s got more power than the previous version. The 3.5-liter V6 is expected to produce around 300-horsepower, and towing capacity should be boosted to around 7,000 pounds. In addition, the bed is slightly longer and wider, and the in-bed trunk is larger and better designed for holding gear. Oh, and for those of us who like to lay in the bed under the stars when we camp, there’s an in-bed audio system to serenade you.

The return of the Honda Ridgeline is definitely something to get excited about. What Honda did was to take the best parts of a really good truck and to make them even better in this new version.
